Introduction to the people behind the site

I guess you could call us a group of like minded friends who love travelling and want to share what we love with others.

We hail from Australia and comprise 1 lovely lady and 3 grumpy guys.

The business side of things

Britta is our 'business manager'. What that means in real terms is she covers all the important stuff while the rest of us have fun.

Brains

Here is where Robert does his stuff. Want to know anything about what we should and should not be deploying, how it should be done, what next in the scheme of things? Robert's your (our) man. Silent until he needs to steer us in the right direction kind of guy.

Workhorses

Ben & Lance do all the grunt work - read; 'having fun developing  the site and playing with html, php, javascript, photoshop, etc., etc.'

A bit about the site

The web pages are all built using Nvu (pronounced N-View - a very good cross-platform public domain html editor) by Lance who, once everyone else is happy passes it all onto Ben who performs his SEO magic before it ends up being deployed onto our server.

But that's not the end of the cycle as our sites (we have a few and build more every day - well that's a lie - more like every month or so) continue to be enhanced and upgraded as we get statistics on what does and doesn't work. So the whole cycle gets repeated and repeated over and over again for each site.

We are a group of like minded friends who decided to build the best travel travel sites we could. What you see is the results of our efforts.

There are four of us each with different experiences and skills.

Britta "The Gal"

Born in the late sixties in Germany came to Australia in 1999 and loved it. Used to work as a barrister and tax advisor in Germany and in 2006 decided that life was too short to live it as an employee and there was more fun out there.

Loves travelling, mostly Northern Europe, Northern America, Australia, Northern India (there seems to be a lot of "Northern" travel experience, will have to do a bit of "Southern" now). Australia is her love and that's where she lives with her lover and business partner.

Her mission in life is to have fun, to live life to the fullest and to expand her awareness. She will travel like there is no tomorrow from 2008 onwards and plans on going to the base camp of Mount Everest with her lover in the near future.

Her most memorable travel experience was when she was seventeen and in Canada, travelling around the Great Lakes in Manitoba and Ontario camping with twenty other youngsters in a big bus with Bernie as the driver. She saw the most amazing sky ever after the sun had set. The whole sky remained orange for what seemed to be hours and the shades of reds, yellows, oranges and blues was just beyond words.

In Toronto she saw her first really tall buildings. Awesome!

She liked Shanghai but got terribly, terribly sick there, so only really remembers one day of sight seeing and was completely taken by India and its people and how out of chaos comes order.

Ben, "Surfer Guy"

Robert, a "Brilliant and Most Beautiful Mind"

Out of the four seems to be the only real Aussie, an outdoor’s kind of man. Born in the fifties, only four months after his parents arrived in Australia from Europe. Loves adventures and ventures and is a very creative thinker. Used to be an electrical engineer but decided that plants were more his cup of tea.

Passionate about animals his companion is a German Shepherd dog, a king who loves to take a snooze in BMWs. Has travelled South East Asia, the US and Australia extensively. Loves Indian summers in the New England States and snow in the Rockies.

Always has been amazed and touched by the grace and beauty of the people of South East Asia.

Used to travel by ship quite frequently in the seventies and drove all around Australia in a van in the eighties.

One of his dreams now is to travel the Mediterranean in his luxury yacht and the world in style. That is his plan for 2008. And in the distant future he would love to travel the universe. Being at a conference at Sea World Nara Resort on the Gold Coast in Queensland in 2006 set one of the foundations for the creation of this site.

Lance, "Prof"

lance has travelled widely throughout the world over the last 40 or so years. Across Asia with a haversack on his back, cruises from Africa to Japan and to Australia, flights into the USSR when it was a totalitarian communist state, into Afganistan and Iran before the Revolution, around, across and over-the-top of Australia and top to bottom and East to West.

He has lived in remote parts of Africa, India and Nepal. Lived for 2 years in the USA, attending Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana studying for a Masters Degree, and a further 2 years in England.

He hitch-hiked into France, and recently stayed in Rome (while the current Pope was being inaugurated and also while the one before him passed on), Tokyo, Los Angeles, San Fransisco, London, Stratford-on-Avon to visit the land of Shakespeare and caught the Orient Express from Paris to Instanbul so he could trek overland across Asia on his way back to Australia and so it goes on and on.

But for all the travels he has done the bug still gets to him - he's planning Ireland and Spain next. He intends to travel until he cannot move another inch (because of old bones - which isn't that far away so he says).
